lyrics

Golden Colorado (Byrd/Simmons)
CH: Well I moved to golden Colorado chasin' a girl I thought I loved
The mountains are cold in golden Colorado
In the wintertime with no one to hold

VS: You might say I had no business going
But you can't know the longing in my soul
When a farmer's daughter lures you from the comfort of your home
It's a sad old tale with a tellin’ we all know

CH: So I moved to golden Colorado chasin' a girl I thought I loved
The mountains are cold in golden Colorado
In the wintertime with no one to hold

VS: The sunlight on these mountains looks like gold
But the miners put their claims in long ago
They came here seeking fortune from the unforgivin' stone
Just to die on Denver streets out in the cold

CH: Well I moved to golden Colorado chasin' a girl I thought I loved
The mountains are cold in golden Colorado
But a Georgia boy would be the last to know
Yeah a Georgia boy would be the last to know

released June 21, 2022
"Golden Colorado" is the only song on the record with upright bass and like all the bass on the record, it's played by Chris Donohue.
It is one of 3 songs with string arrangements by Chris Carmichael.
Shannon Wright is singing haunting harmony here.
I’m playing my gut-string guitar, Brian Owings is on drums. Joe McMahan added some tremolo electric guitar... and of course Pedal Steel Maestro Paul Niehaus delivers the heart of the song in the solo.
